“The research on lower doses was there. It was not reaching the people buying the bottles.”
In my own words
I trained as a registered nurse and have spent close to thirty years in healthcare, working alongside specialists, pharmacists, and other nurses. A lot of that work was reading clinical studies and explaining what they show and what they do not.
When I started looking closely at melatonin, one thing stood out. The shelves were full of 5 mg and 10 mg bottles, and the labels said almost nothing about dose or timing. The research on lower doses was there. It was not reaching the people buying the bottles.
So I write this guide the way I would explain it to a friend. One question at a time, with my sources listed at the end so you can check my work.

What I write about
I write and review every article in the Driffly sleep education hub.
- Melatonin dose, timing, and format
- How sleep changes for women after 40
- How to read a supplement label and the research behind it
How I write for the sleep education hub
- Each article answers one question. The answer is at the top.
- When I make a health statement, I list the study behind it at the end of the article so you can read it yourself.
- Every article shows the date I last reviewed it. If the evidence changes, I update the article.
These articles are for education. They are not medical advice. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting any supplement, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking prescription medication.
