The short answer
The most common Foundayo side effects are stomach related: nausea, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, and indigestion. Fatigue affects 6% to 9% of people, compared with 4% on placebo. Insomnia is not listed.1
Some side effects, like reflux, burping, bloating, and nausea, can make nights harder. Most rise with the dose. Tell your prescriber if they keep you up.
A new kind of GLP-1
Foundayo (orforglipron) was approved by the FDA in April 2026. It is a daily pill, not a weekly shot, and it can be taken with or without food or water.1,2 Unlike Ozempic or Zepbound, it is not a peptide. It is a small molecule pill.2
Because it is new, many people are asking what to expect, especially when it comes to energy and sleep.

Side effects that can show up at night
Night side effect 1
Acid reflux and burping
Both are more common on Foundayo than on placebo.1 Lying down can make reflux worse.
What to try: finish dinner earlier, raise the head of your bed, and ask your pharmacist about it.
Night side effect 2
Nausea and bloating
Nausea is the most common side effect, and it goes up with higher doses.1
What to try: eat smaller meals, avoid heavy or fatty food late in the day, and tell your prescriber if it keeps you up.
Night side effect 3
Low blood sugar
This is mainly a risk if you have diabetes and also take a sulfonylurea or insulin. In people with diabetes, 7% of those also taking a sulfonylurea had low blood sugar, compared with 0.5% of those who were not.1 It can wake you up sweaty, shaky, or with a racing heart.
What to try: ask your doctor if your diabetes medicine should be lowered when you start Foundayo.
Night side effect 4
Feeling tired, but not sleeping well
Fatigue is a listed side effect.1 Eating much less, poor sleep, and a changed routine can add to it.
What to try: keep a steady bedtime and wake time. See why GLP-1s can make you tired and tired but cannot sleep.
Does Foundayo cause insomnia?
Insomnia is not listed as a side effect on the Foundayo label.1 If you are sleeping badly, look at what else changed: night time reflux or nausea, hunger, your meal times, or your bedtime. Read GLP-1s and sleep for a full checklist.
Side effects and dose increases
Foundayo starts low and goes up slowly. Each step lasts at least 30 days.1
In the trials, side effects and stopping rates went up with the dose: 6% stopped at 5.5 mg, 9% at 9 mg, and 10% at 17.2 mg.1 If a new dose is hard on you, tell your prescriber before you decide anything on your own.
Taking a pill every day
A daily medicine has to become part of your routine. In my experience, the easiest way is to tie it to something you already do every day. Take it with breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or while you brush your teeth in the morning or at night.
You do have to be careful about interactions with food or other medicines. Talk to your prescriber or pharmacist to make sure there are no warnings with what you already take. Always check with your doctor first.
- Pick one anchor. The same meal, or brushing your teeth.
- Swallow it whole. Do not break, crush, or chew it, and take only one tablet a day.1
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. Do not double up the next day.1
- Missed 7 days or more? Call your prescriber. You may need to restart at a lower dose.1
- If side effects bother you at night, ask your prescriber if a morning dose makes sense for you.
Check your other medicines
Because Foundayo is a pill that slows how fast your stomach empties, it can change how other pills are absorbed. Some medicines can also change how much Foundayo gets into your body.1
Ask your pharmacist about these
- Birth control pills. The label advises switching to a method that is not a pill, or adding a backup method, for 30 days after starting and for 30 days after each dose increase.1
- Simvastatin. Do not take more than 20 mg a day with Foundayo.1
- Some antibiotics, seizure medicines, and HIV medicines. Some raise Foundayo levels and some lower them a lot.1
- Insulin or sulfonylureas. Your dose may need to be lowered.1
- Supplements, including melatonin. Melatonin is not listed as an interaction, but ask before adding anything new.
Talk to your doctor if
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea will not stop, or you cannot keep fluids down.
- You have severe stomach pain that does not go away.
- You wake up sweaty, shaky, or with a racing heart.
- You feel tired all the time, or your sleep is poor for more than a few weeks.
- You feel low, anxious, or not yourself.
